Enrollment & Registration

STEP 1: Enrollment

First, you need to enroll your student with the Minneapolis Public School (MPS) District. The first screen that pops up will be your address. If you are in the Southwest Community school area, we are considered your home school. If not, you will be considered as open enrolling. The process for both is different. Any questions you have on this process can go though Student Placement at the Davis Center.

CLICK HERE TO START THE PROCESS In the upper right hand corner, click the Enroll bottom to continue with enrollment. Enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year will open on November 11th, 2025. For a timeline of the MPS process timeline, CLICK HERE. Please note that Southwest does not make any decisions on enrollment. This is solely done at the MPS District.

If you would like a tour of Southwest High School, you do not need to have been enrolled yet to have a tour. Tours are open for everyone. For a tour, CLICK HERE. We do not give private tours, tours outside of these dates, or allow students to shadow other students.

STEP 2: Registration

After a decision has been made by the MPS District as to your student's enrollment, Southwest will be notified at the same time the parent has been notified to the enrollment. Our Registrar will contact you within two days to schedule a time for you and your student to come to Southwest to register and pick out classes.

If your student qualifies for Special Ed services, a social worker will be in contact with you and you will continue that process with our Special Ed department.

In the meantime, please gather your student's immunization records and birth certificate (or other qualifying age verification documents). These are required for your student to start at Southwest or any other MPS school.

To contact the Registrar, you can email Lora Grafenstein-Kinzel with registration questions.
